Academic Writing

Course Materials:

This is a zero-cost course, so any materials we use will be open access or available through the Meriam Library.

Types of Writing Assignments:

Core Assignments

These are the assignments required of everyone in order to pass the course (with a C).

  • Visual Analysis – a paper in which you analyze an image that speaks to a problematic cultural norm
  • Inquiry – a deep-dive into an issue to reach a better understanding

Level-Up Assignments

These are assignments for those working towards a B or A in the course.

  • Creative Artifact Project – a project in which you create a “non-academic” iterpretation of an element of one of your papers
  • Critical Awareness Project – a project in which you focus on developing your writing practices through reflection and additional rounds of feedback
